相遇又分離
We Meet and We Part

那日 驚異歡悅地 相遇
今夜 在沉靜咸默中 分離
從此 一切回到零
就好像 沒有那一次的重逢
就算是 從來都未曾見過你

其實 這樣一次做完也好
從此不再 會相遇
那能還有 再別離
別再想 假如時空不會變化
沒有人 能永遠活在理想裏
這些 我是在安慰你？
還是 在說服我自己？
甚麼時候
才能 開始沒有了懷疑
哪日 還會驚異歡悅地 再相遇？
今夜 仍得在沉靜咸默中 分離
往後的日子 像塗上一層灰影
可是我仍然 一直不後悔
我曾愛過你

We Meet and We Part

One day, in surprise and jubilance, we met.
Tonight, in calm and reticence, we part.
From now on, everything returns to zero,
As if there were no such thing as meeting you before.
Just pretend I have never seen you.

In fact, it might be better this way to get it over once and for all.
Since we will not meet again,
We should not worry about parting again.
Think no more about time and space,
Whether they will ever change in favor of our wishes.
No one could live forever in one’s ideal way.
Saying these words, am I comforting you?
Or just trying to convince myself?
When?
I begin to have no doubt that,
One day, in surprise and jubilance, we shall meet again.
Tonight, in calm and reticence, we still have to part.
Life afterwards will be covered with gray shadows.
But I still do not regret that
I have loved you.

【註】《留》丶《想》和《相遇又分離》，都是有關那「年青時光的故事」，我的有些詩，包括這三首，都是寫于數十年前的那個年少多感的年代，那是每個大孩子們都會有的際遇！我在一甲子以前的某個一週內寫完這三首詩時，我還是個「前途無限」的小小青少年；但當我完成它們的英譯文時，誰知道，我已變成白髮蒼蒼的「退休老人」了！

【Note】《Leave Here》丶《Meditation》and《We Meet and We Part》，about "The Stories of the Young" -- Some of my poems, including these 3, were written decades ago. I wrote these three poems in Chinese within a week of time more than six decades ago, about the story that may happen to each of us in our youthful years with "promising future". At that time, I was one of them, a teenager; but now, as I completed their English translations, I wonder what has turned myself into an "elderly retiree" whose head is full of gray hairs!
