歸途 On My Way Home

星熒

駕著你熟悉的「風娥」(Volvo)
聽罷你喜愛的情歌
這孤單的回家路上喲！
惱人是太多歸家的車隊
靜悄是萬千閃爍的燈火

Driving your1 familiar Volvo,
Finishing listening to the love songs you favor,
I am alone on my way home.
Annoying me are those many anxious cars rushing on their way home.
Silent are the myriads of twinkling lights.

(Hsing Ying 星熒 wrote the original poem歸途 “On My Way Home” in Chinese, in the evening before Thanksgiving Day of 1978 in La Jolla, California, USA. The author revised it in June, 2007. This is its literal translation).

1. The intended reader, “you” in the poem is our daughter’s mother, my ex-wife, Tai-li, who was out of town then.
