Mr. President,
Dr. Biden,
Madame Vice President,
Mr. Emhoff,
Americans and the world:

When day comes, we ask ourselves,
where can we find light
in this never-ending shade?
當白晝來臨，我們問自己，
哪兒可以找到一點光亮，

The loss we carry.
A sea we must wade.
扛起損失的負荷，

We braved the belly of the beast.
We’ve learned that quiet isn’t always peace, and
The norms and notions of what “just” is,
isn’t always justice.

And yet the dawn is ours
before we knew it.
Somehow, we do it.

Somehow, we weathered and witnessed
a nation
that isn’t broken,
but simply unfinished。

We, the successors of a country
And a time where a skinny black girl
descended from slaves and raised by a single mother
can dream of becoming president,
only to find herself reciting for one.

And yes,
we are far from polished,
far from pristine,
but that doesn’t mean we are striving
to form a union that is perfect.

We are striving to forge our union
with purpose,
to compose a country committed to
all cultures, colors, characters,
and conditions of man.

所有不同種類的：文化、人種、個性，
以及人類的生存環境，都能和諧共存。

And so we lift our gaze,
not to what stands between us,
but what stands before us.

不是當今在我們之間的 (隔閡)，
而是要面對一直在我們眼前的 (問題)。

We close the divide because we know
to put our future first, we must first
put our differences aside.
我們要消除我們之間的隔閡，因為我們知道

We lay down our arms
so we can reach out our arms to one another.

Let the globe, if nothing else,
say this is true,

That
we’ll forever be tied together,
victorious.

Not because we will never again know defeat,
but because we will never again sow division.
不是因為我們永遠都不願意承認失敗，而是
因為我們永遠都不會播下分裂的種子。

Scripture tells us to envision that
everyone shall sit under their own vine and fig tree,
and no one shall make them afraid.
聖經上的話告訴我們可以展望未來，那時
每個人都可以坐在他們自己的花果樹的籐陰下，
不會有人令他們恐懼害怕。

If we’re to live up to our own time,
Then victory won’t lie in the blade,
but in all the bridges we’ve made.

That is the promise to glade,
the hill we climb, if only we dare.

It’s because being American
is more than a pride we inherit.
It’s the past we step into and
how we repair it.
那是因為身為一個美國人，
就已超越那與生俱來就有的榮耀。

We’ve seen a force that
would shatter our nation,
rather than share it.

Would destroy our country
if it meant delaying democracy.
And this effort very nearly succeeded.

But while democracy can be periodically delayed,
it can never be permanently defeated.

now we assert,

We will not march back to what was,
but move to what shall be:
a country that is bruised but whole,
benevolent but bold, fierce and free.

雖然仁慈厚道，但仍是果敢、激烈、自由的。

We will not be turned around or interrupted by intimidation
because we know our inaction and inertia
will be the inheritance of the next generation, become the future.

Our blunders become their burdens.
But one thing is certain.
If we merge mercy with might, and might with right,
then love becomes our legacy and change our children’s birthright.

Every breath from my bronze-pounded chest,
we will raise this wounded world into a wondrous one.

We will rise from the golden hills of the West.
We will rise from the windswept Northeast
where our forefathers first realized revolution.

We will rise from the lake-rimmed cities of the Midwestern states.

every known nook of our nation, and

When day comes,
we step out of the shade of flame and unafraid.
The new dawn balloons as we free it.
當天亮了！陽光出現了！
我們會無懼地走出遮擋火焰的屏障。
新的黎明會高高地升起，
如同我們施放的氣球一樣！

For there is always light,
if only we’re brave enough to see it.
If only we’re brave enough to be it.
因為亮光永遠都會存在,

我喜歡她的這首詩，不僅僅是詩的內涵，她的詩有韻律感，更有節奏感。很適合朗誦。年輕人一定會很喜歡，她朗誦起來，有點 RAP (說唱) 的風味！

我想妳一定也知道，這個很年輕的女詩人Amanda Gorman，在今年1月20日 拜登美國總統就職典禮上朗誦她自己的一首詩 《The Hill We Climb 》獲得很多讚賞。她是個黑人天主教徒，只有23歲，已經是當今的桂冠詩人，現在哈佛讀研究所，思想比較開放，這幾天已變成美國的風雲人物。「梵蒂岡教廷新聞」也已經親自專訪了她。對她的評論也很好，她在墮胎問題上，和教廷的看法是有一些衝突的，但是在訪談中並沒有提到這個問題，認為她對社會問題是屬於溫和的改良派。她認為「詩」在社會問題上是有很大力量的(“powerful “)。
