芥子 46期 - A Visit with the Master (Richard John Guillory)

A Visit with the Master

Richard John Guillory

As the train slowly approaches 曲阜,
one could see in the distance
the ever present electrical system.
The giant supply of life for its people.

Upon arrival we would be greeted by the many descendants
of the great Philosophical Spirit of the past.
Only a short distance from the center of what
is today a magnificent city, is the resting place of
a multitude of the 曲阜 Master’s family.

魯

A walk amongst 孔子 descendants leads to
the site of his mound, his earthly resting place.

Gently is the covered greenery of the mound.
Gentle is its sloping, fixed for all ages.

Here he rests amongst his followers.

Here we recall 有子 everlasting thought:

“When respect is shown according to what is proper,
one keeps far from shame and disgrace.”

Walking away one crosses the bridge above the 洙stream,
the boundary of the city of 鲁,

This boundary holds forever close the Master’s wisdom.
